PM Thanks Donors for Helping Flood Victims

PURSAT: Prime Minister Hun Sen has thanked all donors for providing monetary funds and rice donations to help the people who have been badly affected by the floods.

During a meeting with more than 5,000 flood victims in Pursat province on Tuesday morning, 25 October, the Prime Minister said, "I want to thank the benefactors for donating rice or money to help the government solve the problems faced by our people."

The Prime Minister also thanked the monks and benefactors who directly went and donated money and gifts to people affected by floods.

"This is called the art or culture of sharing, where you help the needy," he said. "This is the kindness of the rich to share with the poor. The government has not gone bankrupt yet, but this valuable contribution is giving the government the opportunity to manage more [resources] for our people."

The Prime Minister confirmed that the people affected by natural disasters in Pursat province have received 150 tons of rice sponsored by Okhna Try Pheap, while the Royal Government has prepared an additional 300 tons of rice for the authorities to continue distributing in Pursat province as well.

Okhna Wen Hour, who was born in Pursat province, also donated 100 tons of rice to the government to distribute to flood victims. Additionally, the Royal Government also received an additional 500 tons of rice from the owners of Chip Mong and from other philanthropists.

The Royal Government will distribute 100 tons of rice to flood victims in Banteay Meanchey province and another 100 tons flood victims in Kampong Thom province on 29 October. Another 100 tons of rice each will then be distributed to people in Kampong Chhnang province and Prey Veng on 30 October 2022.

The Prime Minister has asserted that he would not allow people to say that there are no (rice) seeds left to distribute, and that he does not want to see people die from starvation due to the floods. He instructed the Minister of Agriculture to find methods to locally produce rice and other crop seeds to ensure that there are enough to be distributed to flood victims across Cambodia.
